FT-817 The Ultimate Backpacker!
I have had this little baby about a year & everywhere I go
this goes. It’s a brilliant bit of kit,
I use it in the car for VHF/UHF
& portable on HF down the beach
with 5w you will be surprised where
you can get to.
Update: 9/10/07 Went down the harbour
the other week working QRP with a
couple of watts with an ATX had
loads on contacts to Argentina,
The States & Aruba
I bought myself a Kenwood TH-F7E awhile ago now, It’s a good radio
I was going to replace it but I have been using it a lot recently & it’s really impressed me with ease of use and the build quality the battery life & performance is outstanding.
My first objective
Is to work every country on every band
My second objective
To stop buying every piece of ham radio gear I see.
I have not been into QRP for long, I bought an Icom 703 a few months ago and have enjoyed it a lot. I use it with a ATX antenna. Using a small sealed 10 amp lead acid battery I get several days out of a single charge. I also have the LC-156 back pack icom’s multi-bag 703 carrier it offers plenty of room to store & protect my gear.
12/11/07 four 5/5 contacts to the States
very pleased so far.
Above is a flight case modified to accommodate the Yaesu 817 with additional power source & other bits & pieces to make it easy to use wherever I go. Click on picture for a bigger view.
